Singing, part 2

Laurel has been singing a lot this week. She chanted lyrics for a few months first, but now she is definitely singing.

Last night I turned on the baby monitor as we all slept. Usually at night we turn it off and leave our bedroom door ajar so we can hear any cries of distress Laurel might make, but not be bothered by her normal night-waking noises. But right now she has a cold with a slight fever, and I wanted to be sure she was okay.

At 1:15 a.m. I woke from sleep to hear this coming through the monitor: "has a very shiny nose."

Laurel sounded congested and unhappy, a strange tone for a Christmas carol. But a moment later the next partial line followed: "say it glows."

She muttered to herself for a while longer, then grew quiet. She comforted herself back to sleep with song!
