Things in the sky

"Moon," Laurel says. "Stars." She pauses for a moment.

"Sun!" she adds excitedly.

Then, even more excitedly, "Air-pane!" Another pause.

"And sun!!"

(She has learned the word "sun" fairly recently and is still quite pleased with it.)

"What about birds?" I ask her. "Are the birds in the sky?"

"No," she says decidedly.

"Then where are the birds?"

"Birdbath," she says.

She made up this list of things in the sky all on her own; as far as I know, no one quizzed her on the topic. She likes to recite the list while we're driving, and it cracks me up to hear her little voice coming from the back seat naming the same four items over and over. When she says "sun," even for the third or fourth time, she always manages to sound like she almost forgot to add it -- maybe it's her enthusiastic tone of voice, or maybe it's the "and" she often inserts in front of it.
