Measurements

Laurel had her eight-month well-baby examination today. She seems to be doing great, although she did not have a great time! When I was picking her up after the nurse had measured her, she grabbed hold of the paper covering the exam table and she got spooked by its loud rattle. (She has always detested that type of noise; she jumps a foot whenever we rip off a sheet of aluminum foil.) Anyway, after her fright she never regained her equilibrium, and although she calmed down while I was holding her, she cried whenever I had to set her down. So much for being good-natured!

Here are her latest measurements:
28 1/4 inches (80th percentile)
16 pounds, 7 ounces (40th percentile)

She is actually eight and a half months old, so these percentiles, which compare her to eight-month-old girls, might be slightly elevated. Even so, it's looking like she might be tall and slim.

Isaac was measured at his four-year check-up a few weeks ago, and it should surprise no one to learn that he is also turning out to be tall and slim. His weight percentile, in fact, was at an all-time low -- three-quarters of other four-year-old boys weigh more than he does.

Here are his latest measurements:
41 inches (70th percentile)
34 pounds, 3 ounces (25th percentile)

I know I'm falling prey to making continual sibling comparisons, but I find it interesting that back when Isaac was eight months old, he was in the same height percentile that Laurel is, the 80th, although he was half an inch taller. And although at that age he was in a slightly higher weight percentile, the 55th instead of the 40th, he weighed two and a quarter pounds more! I keep being surprised that boys are so much bigger than girls.
