So long, Trixie Tracker

Isaac is now four years old, and it is the end of an era: I just entered the very last piece of data on his Trixie Tracker site when I added his height and weight to his measurements page. Yes, we stopped tracking his sleep when he turned four.

There wasn't much point in continuing to use Trixie Tracker for Isaac. For the last six months his sleep has been easy and regular -- for the first time in his life! We continued to track it, but strictly out of habit. We weren't learning anything new from the collected data, although coming after three years of trouble getting him to sleep, it was extremely pleasant to view the charts! Also, there was a certain amount of guesswork involved in entering the data. Since we had started kissing him good night and leaving the room while he was awake, we weren't sure exactly when he was falling asleep.

If you can't comprehend why anyone would want to collect baby data, you can read our reasons here: we began using Trixie Tracker when Isaac was six months old, and we liked it so much that we were still going strong at one year and two years of use. (It was just as we reached our third year of using it, when Isaac was three and a half years old, that we stopped trying to get him to nap in the afternoon. That's what made bedtime a breeze.)

So long, Trixie Tracker! Although it is far from a complete farewell -- we are still tracking Laurel, including sleep, nursing, solid foods, medicine, and sometimes even dirty diapers. And I'll be dipping back into Isaac's archives from time to time, if only to make a few comparisons to remind myself that so far, things have been much easier with Laurel.

Like comparing these charts, which graph my children's average amount of sleep (in dark blue) over the average amount of sleep of hundreds of other Trixie Tracker users (in light blue). Laurel sleeps at least 13 out of every 24 hours and pretty much follows the average curve, while Isaac sleeps 12 hours if you're lucky and is nowhere near the average:
