Tree

In my post about naming Laurel, I mentioned that I was partially inspired by the large California Bay Laurel tree on the hillside behind our house. In this photo of our yard, taken in May, it is the dark-branched tree in the upper left background, the one with the bare limbs spreading against the sky.

In early July I noticed the tree was gone. Actually, first I noticed a large blank area in the skyline, and then I noticed the tree was gone. It hadn't been especially healthy for the past few years ago, but it had continued green and growing.

Until it fell down one night, that is, all 75 feet of it sprawled across our neighbors' yard. Two weeks ago they finally removed it, except for 20-odd feet of the mighty trunk, which Isaac and I have been climbing on.

Goodbye, old tree!
