Sleep ... not

I guess my post from yesterday was too boastful after all, because I was punished by the Blog Gods: last night Laurel did not sleep through the night. She woke up four times in one 75-minute period, and I finally got so tired that I brought her into my bed. (Craig is out of town!)

By that time Laurel was wide awake. She was cheerful as long as I didn't try to put her down, so instead I lay down while she sat on the bed next to me in the semi-darkness. She was watching me intently. Every time I began to doze off, I would feel her little fingers grabbing at my face. It might have been cute if I hadn't been so tired.

After 20 minutes of this she began yawning, and I laid her down next to me. I rested her head on my arm and jiggled her a little bit, and five minutes later she fell asleep.

And what will tonight be like? Oh, I dare not make any predictions. I dare not even hope.

And one hour after Laurel finally fell asleep in my bed, I heard Isaac begin to cry in his room. When I got up to see what was wrong, he was awake and upset because he had fallen out of bed! So I brought him into my bed as well, and I ended up sandwiched between the two of them. Sweet, but not exactly restful.
