Not only was today the last day of school, it was also the last day of work for Isaac's teacher Jennifer. She's retiring after 20 years! When I told Isaac that Jennifer wouldn't be his teacher next year, he didn't seem upset, despite his fondness for her. Well, he did say, "I just want Jennifer to be my teacher always," but he said it with resignation rather than protest. He likes the teacher who will take Jennifer's place, so that helps. I'm sorry to see her go, too, but I suspect having a different teacher for both years of preschool will make the transition to kindergarten a little easier.
Today at the end-of-school picnic we were saying goodbye to Jennifer, so I asked Isaac, "What was your favorite thing that Jennifer did this year?"
I was expecting him to say "She read Digger Man to me," but he didn't. Instead he looked uncharacteristically sheepish, backed up a few steps, and said, "I just like the way she is." Then he turned tail and ran for the play structure.
I think she appreciated it.
