Sick

I've been sick for more than a week. I probably had the swine flu. I'm kind of serious. It wasn't a terrible flu, but it was still a drag: I had a sore throat, mild congestion, a day of being queasy, a day or two of fever, mild aches, and exhaustion. That's why I haven't been much of a blogger recently -- I can't stay focused long enough to write anything interesting.

I haven't been much of a mother, either. A few days ago, when I was feeling my sickest, Isaac kept bursting into tears. He must have cried seven or eight times in a single day, which is very unusual. When Craig came home from work that afternoon, I told him that I was afraid Isaac was getting sick too. Why else would he be crying so much?

Isaac protested. He said, "I don't feel sick. I cry because you make me feel bad."

It was an effective reminder that parental attitude has a lot to do with child behavior. When I'm tired, I lack patience.
