Friends

June 2006 -- Isaac is nine months old

December 2008 -- Isaac is three years and three months old

March 2010 (yesterday!) -- Isaac is four years and six months old

The other boy in all the pictures is Isaac's friend Nicholas. The boys don't remember their first meeting; it was at a support group for new mothers when Isaac was three weeks and Nicholas six weeks old. At the time I thought Nicholas seemed ancient and mature, and that the boys were too apart in age to become playmates -- Nicholas was twice Isaac's age! When you're still measuring your baby's life in days, even a few weeks seems like an enormous difference.

After that, Isaac and Nicholas were in the same weekly playgroup for about the first two years of their lives, until Nicholas's family moved to another state in 2007. But in the fall of 2008, when the boys were three years old, Nicholas's family moved back, and the two of them became reacquainted when they attended the same preschool for a while.

Now both boys are four and a half years old, and our families live less than a mile apart! And, as has been true for many years now, they really enjoy playing together. They are genuinely friends.
