Writing

On Monday I met with the director of Isaac's preschool to discuss our reorganization of the classroom library. For a while we walked around the room while I took notes on an index card, but then we sat down and began to talk.

All this time I was wearing Laurel on my front in the Ergo carrier. She was interested for quite a while, but when I sat down she got restless, so I handed her my index card. Then she insisted I also give her my pencil, so I did. I hoped she wouldn't accidentally stab herself (or me!) with it.

I was surprised a few minutes later when I glanced down at her. She was holding the card in one hand and the pencil in the other, but instead of chewing on them, which I expected, she was pretending to write!

This was probably her first opportunity to use a pencil or pen, and she's almost 15 months old. Whoops! I need to make sure I'm not underestimating her abilities.
