This afternoon Isaac was pretending he was having a dinner party. Guests had arrived at his house by the busload, he said, and he was bustling around putting more food on the table. (It was one of the couch cushions, removed from the couch and laid out on the living room floor.)
"Ding-dong," I said. "There's your doorbell again. Someone else is here!"
He answered the door and escorted the new guest to the dining area. I asked for an introduction.
"This is Maurice," Isaac announced, and then added, after only a very slight pause, "Sendak."
Isaac and I stared at each other, both surprised by his answer. I think Sendak is the first famous person to make an appearance in one of our imaginary games.
Then we began laughing.

He would be an interesting dinner guest! Isaac can invite him over any time.
