Leaf's room

We're making good progress on converting our former home office into a bedroom for Leaf. Most of this progress, however, was made earlier last month when my parents came to visit for a weekend. (Thanks again, by the way!) I've written previously about the amount of work my parents manage to accomplish, and their past visit was no exception. What takes Craig and me months -- or, honestly, years -- to get around to finishing, my parents get done in mere hours.

So first my folks moved all the office furniture out of the room, which was no small feat. Then they did some work on the walls, as there was some patching, trim work, priming, and painting to be completed. None of this work was specifically baby-related, so don't start thinking we painted the room pink or anything! No, embarrassingly, it was work left unfinished from the last time we did any remodeling to the room, which was at least five years ago. While we've been living with a raw plywood patch covering the hole where a furnace duct used to be, we figured the baby deserves to have a plywood patch painted the same light gray color as the rest of the walls. Nothing but the best for our girl.

(Similarly, it was Isaac's birth that motivated us to finally put up the baseboard trim and install carpet in his room. I joked that if we went on to have two more children after this, we might finally finish the detail work in our other two minimally-remodeled bedrooms. Craig pointed out that if we don't have any more children, instead we could afford to hire someone to do the work for us. That sounds like a better plan.)

So now Leaf's room contains the following items: a crib, a changing table, a bookcase (for storing clothes in addition to, well, books), and a big cozy armchair we recently bought on Craigslist. We'll add a small end table, and maybe a footstool for Isaac to sit on, but there's not room for much else. I don't expect Leaf to spend a lot of time in there at first, anyway, because for at least six months she'll spend her nights in her co-sleeper in the master bedroom.

The walls look pretty good, too, although there's one major project left: carpeting. No, not the floor, which already has fairly decent vinyl tile. But the surface of one wall is in such poor condition that we finally decided all we could do was disguise it, and we decided to do it with carpet tiles. Because nothing says "nursery" like an entire wall covered in hairy orange carpet!
