Today at breakfast we were discussing the composition of clouds and how they make rain. In the end this was Isaac's poetic offering on the subject:
"The clouds make the rain, and the rain makes the clouds."
Do conversations like these make parenting worth the effort? Sometimes I think so.

And despite my apprehensions about the arrival of Isaac's sister, I have to admit I am looking forward to being present while another child learns to talk. It's so exciting to watch language appear gradually from what seems like scratch, and although Isaac's language is certainly still developing, in some ways he is already done with the most thrilling aspects -- now he's mostly working on content.

Of course, maybe little Leaf won't be interested in talking at all. Maybe she'll be one of those kids who prefers physical adventure to verbal interaction, and instead I'll have to learn to appreciate her skills as she silently attempts to scale the kitchen counters. I'll try to stay open to that possibility as well.
