I neglected to tell you the preparations I have been making for Leaf's room! Besides being the person whose idea it is to get stuff, I mean. My online shopping is to blame for the orange carpeted wall in the baby's room, as well as the big armchair in there and the matching loveseat in Isaac's room. (I figured we had better obtain seating that could hold an adult and more than one child at a time.) And I'm busily borrowing more baby gear than we can possibly use.
Anyway, I also handle the landscaping, so I have been giving some thought to the view outside Leaf's room. I don't have a whole lot of gardening energy right now, as you might imagine, so I've been concentrating my efforts on the areas we can see from the house. After all, I might have even less gardening energy a few months from now! Together Isaac and I did some fall clean-up, clearing away fallen leaves, cutting back perennials, and pulling weeds, so at least things will look tidy. In one nearby flower bed I planted some dark red violas that matched the fall foliage of our dwarf Japanese maple; the maple leaves are withered now, but the colors still look good together. In two other beds I planted about 50 daffodil bulbs, which should begin to bloom in late February or early March, when Leaf is six or seven weeks old.
Will she notice them? No, but at least I'll have something to look at while I sit nursing her in the new armchair.
