Similes

This summer Isaac has started to use similes to more precisely describe the world around him. (Honestly, I don't think they're really similes -- more like plain old analogies. But I'm a little rusty on my figures of speech.)

Tellingly, they've all shared the same theme -- vehicles.

Back in June I was trying to describe growth to Isaac. He said, "Grow up be man," speaking of himself, and I told him that in fact he was growing bigger every day. I raised my arm up slowly to demonstrate, and he said, "Like cherry picker truck do!"

Then this month, when we were on our way to Yellowstone, Isaac's Oma and Opa were talking to him about geysers. They told him that geysers spurt out water, and Isaac said, "Like fire truck."

The last two examples happened this week. Isaac was about to eat a bite-size square of pizza when he noticed that another square was attached to it by a string of melted cheese, and he said, "Like trailer hitch." Later, about to eat a wedge cut from a peach, he said, "Like boat."

A slice of peach does look a little bit like a boat. I'd never noticed before.
