Bugs

1) My laptop has refused to boot up for the past week. (Our other computer, which I'm using now, won't load Blogger most of the time, which explains why my blogging has been sparse. I really miss it!) A few days ago I remarked that the laptop was "dead," and Isaac tried to find a point of reference for this word. "Dead ladybug," he finally said. Once he was allowed to play with a dead ladybug he found in our garden, and I guess it made a big impression on him.

2) Speaking of bugs in our garden, during the growing season I make daily rounds of our roses in search of the dread rose weevil, which I pick off by hand (and then kill). Naturally Isaac has observed me doing this, and he follows along behind. "Isaac help," he says as he examines rose buds. "Isaac look weevil too." He always talks to himself as he lies in bed at night, and one night this week, literally seconds before he fell asleep, I heard him say, "Oh no, weevil! Bad bug!"

3) An even worse bug is the tick, of course, which we also have in our yard. Again in imitation of what he's seen me do, Isaac pretends to be looking for them, both on the dog and on me. "Very big tick over here," he'll say seriously. "Other big tick over here." This is a little bit disturbing, but after the dog poop game I've gotten used to this kind of false alarm.
