Isaac's interest in apple pie, both real and pretend, has been well documented in these pages. As I've mentioned, if you ask him what he's making when he's pretending to cook, he invariably answers, "Apple pie."
In addition to playing with every pie pan we own, he has also appropriated a cake pan, which he uses in the sandbox outside. About three weeks ago I asked him what kind of cake he was making, and he answered, after a moment's hesitation, "Apple pie cake." I thought that was pretty inventive, and also that it sounded pretty good.
Then earlier this week when he was cooking in the sandbox, he served me a flat rock about the size of my palm, and he told me it was a cookie. I asked him what kind of cookie it was, and he immediately answered, "Apple pie cake cookie."
Wow! That blows my mind! Also, is there such a thing? Any pastry chefs or food scientists out there, you're welcome to use Isaac's idea. Just send us a free sample, please.
