From the Cute for Now Dept.

Suppose you want someone to look you right in the eye. Or, suppose you want to call someone's attention to an interesting object across the room. But you can't talk! How can you tell this person where to look?

Well, over the last two days Isaac has realized that he can reach out and, by pressing on my cheek, turn my head to face him. And he can do the same thing in reverse -- push on my cheek until I turn my head away toward his object of interest. He doesn't just shove my head around willy-nilly, either. He is very precise and measured, almost gentle, with this gesture.

Cute? For now.

It seems sophisticated for him to recognize that we see through our eyes, and therefore that we need to be facing something to see it. And how satisfying for us both that he has found a way to express his desires and communicate his interests. And he has also mastered what seems to be a fairly complicated spatial concept -- he has to press a specific cheek to turn my head in the proper direction.

Again -- cute? Again -- for now.
