Thanks a lot, Mr. Pete Seeger

Isaac seems to have taken this verse from "Jim Crack Corn" to heart:
Big old owl with eyes so bright
On many a dark and starry night
I've often heard my true love say
Sing all night and sleep all day
After weeks of regularity, Isaac's sleep has begun see-sawing wildly. It's gotten completely out of balance. Two consecutive short nights of nine hours of sleep, including that terrible night with a three-hour wakeful period, resulted in him catching up with a record-breaking 12-hour night on Tuesday, and a three-hour nap on Wednesday. He was only awake nine and a half hours in that 24-hour period -- he didn't even sleep that much as a newborn!

Apparently refreshed and rested by this excess of sleep, Isaac just wasn't tired last night -- he slept less than nine hours, with a two-hour wakeful stretch from 3:00 to 5:00 a.m. during which I harbored dark thoughts toward him in my secret heart. Not murderous thoughts, but I was tempted to give him a good hard pinch.
