In one hour we'll start loading our bags in the car; in two and a half hours we'll be on the plane awaiting take-off. We're going to Santa Fe for a week; Craig will attend a conference, and Isaac and I will be tourists.
Somehow we didn't manage to pack any lighter than we did seven months ago -- in fact, we have the exact same configuration. I guess I had imagined that as Isaac got older, he would need less stuff, but that hasn't turned out to be true yet. I was never a rabid less-is-more packer (I bring too many books, for one thing), but it does disturb me that we have more luggage than we can carry.
Isaac doesn't remember his last two flights (at four and 16 months), but we've been preparing him for this one. We've read him Anne Rockwell's I Fly, and Craig even bought him a toy 747. We've got a backpack full of snacks, books, and a combination of old and new toys. It's a short flight, and he's an easy-going kid with a good attention span who focuses well, so I don't anticipate any major behavior or boredom problems. However, although I plan to buy a few celebrity gossip magazines at the airport, I'm not convinced I'll find the time to read them while in flight. Unless I read them to Isaac.
