Like father, like son

Craig's thumbs are double-jointed. Besides feeling vaguely uneasy whenever I saw him bend them backwards from their base at a 90-degree angle, I never thought much about it. Not even when I noticed, immediately upon Isaac's birth, that Craig and Isaac have very similar hands. (They both look just like Craig's father's hands, in fact.)

But recently I was clipping Izzy's fingernails, and I noticed a certain flexibility to his thumb. I gently pulled it backward, away from his palm. My thumbs don't budge at all when I try this -- they are completely rigid. Isaac's bent easily, folding away from the rest of his hand. His thumbs are double-jointed too.

Even though I know this is normal for some people, doing it to Isaac gave me the chills. It just looked like something terribly painful was happening to his hand! But when I got over my squeamishness, it was nice to realize that this is yet another way in which Isaac resembles his father.

Edited to add:

Okay, I'll admit that I'm also a little disappointed that this is yet another way in which Isaac doesn't resemble me.
